A little boy has been hailed a hero after he rescued his little sister from a house fire by climbing through a window.

Seven-year-old Eli Davidson, from Tennessee, saved his sister's life after their home caught fire earlier this month. With the help of dad Chris, Eli managed to climb through a window to rescue his 22-month-old sibling.

Both Chris and mum Nicole are former firefighters, and sprung into action when they woke to find the house filled with smoke.

"He [Chris] grabbed the fire extinguisher trying to buy me time to get the kids, and I grabbed the boys because they were closest to the fire," Nicole told news outlet WVLT.

The parents were unable to reach their daughter's bedroom due to the flames engulfing the living room area, so once Chris and Nicole had their boys outside, Chris boosted Eli up to his baby sister's window, where he was able to safely lift her from the cot and pass her to his dad.

"Dad busted the window and then I said, 'I can't do it,' like two times, and then I said, 'I got her dad'," explained Eli.

"And when we went down there, I said 'I was scared but I didn't want my sister to die'."

Chris and Nicole couldn't be more proud of their son, with Chris telling CNN: "We went outside to get to her from the window, but there was nothing for me to stand on to reach up there.

"So, I picked up Eli, who went through the window and was able to grab her from her crib. We couldn't be more proud of Eli. He did something a grown man wouldn't do."
