Couple shocked after finding ominous note hidden in their new home

Anita Rainier and her husband were left freaked out by the note, which they found shortly after moving into their home

A couple were left horrified after they discovered a creepy note hidden in their home shortly after moving in, as they turned to Reddit for answers.

Anita Rainier and her husband moved into a new house in Seattle, Washington, a few months ago.

Everything was going well and the pair soon decided to take on some renovation jobs around the house. But they could never have imagined what they went on to uncover in the process.

According to Newsweek, the couple were discussing how to put up a display cabinet when they found an unsettling note in the kitchen.

“My husband and I were just chatting in the kitchen, deciding how we should set up one particular display cabinet,” Anita told the publication.

“I got down at an angle and suddenly let out a cry of ‘what the f**k is that?'

“It was this really well-hidden bit of paper tightly tucked into the top of the cabinet, totally out of sight unless you got all the way down like I was looking up."

The eerie note read: "Don't look under the floor."

Meanwhile, on the back of the paper there were a series of numbers that the pair couldn't make any sense of.

Over on Reddit, the couple asked: "Found this note taped under a panel in this storage cabinet, previous owner just trolling me?"

Other people were quick to comment, with many sharing their own experiences.

One person wrote: "When we bought our house, the prior owner left us an embosser for stamping our return address on an envelope flap. But how did they know what our return address would be?"

While another said: "We're in the process of moving out of our home. I'm not saying my husband staged a toy dinosaur dinner party near the access panel to the attic or anything for some future occupant to find, but I'm also not NOT going to tell you that."

While a third added: "Did you recently move in? Cause If I’m being honest, I’ve done this. I sold a home in 2023 and I left cryptic notes all over that place. It’s a good laugh for me and the new owners will be left wondering."

Most people were of the opinion that the previous owner was indeed trolling the couple, however others urged them to look under the floor.

"Trolling. Because in his mind it is funny to watch you tare out the floor. Don't worry about it. If it really bothers you, you can knock on the floor, and if anywhere sounds different than most of the floor or where the joists are, then you can waste you time," one suggested.

And a second said: "Before you tear up the floor in the room, maybe look under the floor of the storage cabinet."

"That looks like a library card number," added another.

What would you do?
