Woman Claims Son Came Home 'Starving' After Being Serve 'Vile' Lunch

Parents were left in shock after seeing their children's school lunch.

A school has come under fire after pictures of their school lunch went viral on social media for being "vile".

Parents expressed their disgust after seeing the "inedible" and "ridiculous" school dinners at a Welsh secondary school.

Images of the meals prepared at Ysgol Dyffryn Taf, in the Carmarthenshire town of Whitland, have faced scrutiny after the they were shared on social media.

Some people labelled the food “shocking” and “bloody awful”, while one person claimed the school “should be ashamed of themselves for serving that to children”.

One parent, Shelley Webb, from Pembrokeshire, posted several images online after deciding that enough was enough following complaints from her daughter about food at school.

"The school changed their food in the past couple of months and since then not only has the selection got smaller, but the portion sizes have too,” claimed Shelley.

“Both the quantity and the quality of the food the children get is ridiculous.

"It’s £2.60 for what they call a ‘nutritious main meal’ - it’s basically one sausage, one scoop of mash, some carrots and cranberry sauce. I think it’s 95p for one fish finger!”

Shelley initially thought her daughter's complaints about the school dinners were not as big of a deal. That was until she saw pictures.

“My daughter has complained about the quality of the food and the size of the portions before but I just thought she was moaning about school dinners in general like a lot of kids do,” said Shelley.

"But she showed me some of the pictures and then I believed her! The portion sizes aren’t big enough to feed a four-year-old, never mind teenagers.

And my daughter will sometimes just have a snack in school or something like a cookie for lunch; I didn’t know why, but now I do now.”

The viral post, inspired other concerned parents to post pictures that their children had taken of similar meals they were served and charged for at the school.

Shelley said parents are now opting to give their children sandwiches so they can avoid the school dinners. She's also calling on the local authority to take action regarding the quality of the meals.

She believes parents wouldn't mind spending money on school dinners "if they were nice and provided a good meal" instead of the "inedible" food the children pay £2.60 for.

Carmarthenshire Council, the authority responsible for education and school dinners at Ysgol Dyffryn Taf, has said it is now looking into the matter urgently.

The council's director of education and children’s services, Gareth Morgans, said: “We are investigating these concerns as a matter of urgency now that it has been brought to our attention and would like to reassure parents that arrangements are in place to address this situation.

"If parents/guardians or pupils have any concerns about the standard of food in Carmarthenshire schools, we would encourage them to contact [email protected].”
