People have shared their theory about the real reason why the 'best TV show ever watched' was taken off streaming platforms.

It's always a shame whenever one of our favourite pieces of viewing material gets taken off streaming - let alone when it's as utterly 'phenomenal' as this particular series in question.

The sci-fi series, which boasts a cushty four seasons, first hit our screens nearly a decade back in 2016 and featured a star-studded cast including the likes of Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, Ed Harris and Thandiwe Newton - just to name a handful.

Now, unfortunately for fans of the show, it was removed from HBO Max in 2022, getting canceled just three months after the season four finale.

Before that, people could stream it as much as they pleased but, following the move, they now have to purchase it on Amazon Prime.

And, according to fans, there's a pretty major reason as to why.

Namely, they reckon it was removed off streaming as what was going on in the series was simply too close to what is happening in the real world.

The series in question by the way is, of course, Westworld and you can check out the official trailer here:

Sharing their theory, one Reddit user hit out: "I maintain they got rid of it because it had dangerous ideas and fears of the future establishment. Fear mongering of AI and technological big brother. Only explanation for me."

They added that the programme created an 'uncanny realistic fear we have today with AI becoming common place',

"For example, sex robots are an actual thing now. Which relates to season 1 & 2 but season 3 and 4 really invokes the fear of retaliation in those regards," the Redditer claimed.

"Many people myself included already see machines as human in regards to treated them with respect like when humans kick them about to test their capabilities."

And, singing their praises of the programme, one X user penned: "I just started Westworld S1, what a gem. Blending a classic Western with sci-fi concepts and androids. Excellent acting, atmosphere, and writing. If you like Westerns it's good, and Sci-Fi too."

"Westworld first season ending is so F*CKING AMAZING OMG now I’m scared to start a new one, so many ppl were saying it turned out horribly," quipped a second.

A third chimed in: "It's a shame Westworld fumbled its later seasons."

Replying to a question which asked 'which TV show had you hooked after one episode', a fourth chirped: "Oh I was hooked HOOKED season one of Westworld is one of the best sci-fi media of all time."

"Started rewatching #WestWorld and just the opening scores gives me goosebumps. This show is phenomenal. The best TV show I have ever watched. Every scene is a master piece in itself!" gushed another.

And a final X user echoed: "One of the best opening sequences to come out of Hollywood… it gave me goosebumps whenever it came on tv… #WestWorld."
