Furious Eamonn Holmes hits out after Phillip Schofield's controversial TV comeback and 'dig' at Holly Willoughby

Furious Eamonn Holmes hits out after Phillip Schofield's controversial TV comeback and 'dig' at Holly Willoughby

Phillip Schofield made a shocking return to screens last night on Channel 5's Cast Away

Eamonn Holmes has hit out at Phillip Schofield's controversial TV return after the former This Morning presenter appeared to make a sly dig at his ex-colleague Holly Willoughby.

Eamonn, who co-presented This Morning with his soon-to-be ex wife Ruth Langsford for a number of years, has made no secret of his disdain for fellow This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield since his perceived fall from grace.

Phillip presented the beloved ITV daytime show for over two decades, but left his role in 2023 after he admitted to an affair with a younger colleague.

The 62-year-old had at first denied that there was any truth to the allegations.

But he lated admitted the 'unwise, but not illegal' affair began when his colleague was 20 years old, though they met when the unnamed colleague was 15.

In a television comeback that some people doubted would ever happen, Phillip appeared on Channel 5's Cast Away last night, prompting outrage from Eamonn today (1 October).

The reality show follows Phillip marooned on a desert island somewhere off the coast of Madagascar for 10 days, with no contact with the outside world.

He is joined by a handful of cameras and lip balm as his only luxury.

Speaking of his return to screens, Eamonn appeared on a segment of GB News.

His co-host, Isabel Webster, highlighted that Phillip hadn't done 'anything illegal.'

Eamonn responded: "Why is that even relevant? Why do you keep on pushing that?"

Holmes previously said of Schofield's Cast Away show: "This man is addicted to fame, absolutely addicted to fame."

Referencing comments Phillip made expressing his belief that he'd been 'thrown under the bus' by former colleagues, Eamonn said: "Well, if I'm one of the people that threw him under the bus, I'm very proud to have done it.

"I think he is where he deserves to be - in exile."

In awkward scenes last night, Phillip appeared to poke fun at how his ex co-presenter Holly Willoughby handled his departure from This Morning.

In 2023, during Holly's first appearance after the news of the affair broke, she asked viewers: "Right, deep breath. Firstly, are you OK? I hope so.”

It became a viral meme overnight.

Phillip appeared to make a dig at the moment when speaking to his family.

Smirking, he asked them: "If you're ok, then we're ok, and I'm ok... are you ok?"

One person wrote on X following the scene: "Oooh was that a cheeky dig at Holly Willoughby there Phillip? Are you OK?"

Tyla has previously reached out to representatives of Phillip Schofield for comment.
