I'm A Celebrity is actually filmed in 'fake' jungle with roof over it

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has finally returned to ITV and boy, have we been treated to some stellar television already.

Last weekend, ten famous faces landed in the heart of the Australian jungle to face severe fears while taking part in some iconic Bushtucker trails.

So far, reality TV viewers have experienced subtle digs from lauded presenters Ant & Dec, celebrities sticking up for one another, and awkward comments exchanged between contestants.

This year, GK Barry, Coleen Rooney and Tulisa Contostavlos are all vying to become the next Queen of the Jungle while McFly’s Danny Jones, former boxing champion Barry McGuigan, and more are hoping they can all go the distance.

But as the stars continue to settle into New South Wales, some fans are only just realising that the I’m A Celeb set isn’t exactly as it seems.

Now, we all know that one of the main draws of the TV show is watching some of the biggest names in entertainment suffer.

Whether it's eating bugs or being drenched in gunge, you can’t deny that it’s enjoyable to see a celebrity squirm, right?

But although we want to see the campmates uncomfortable, it's important to know that they're out of any real danger.

As thunderstorms and heavy rain pounding the set is a serious probability, it does mean the Aussie camp does require some level of protection.

And previously, it’s been reported that the I'm A Celeb landscape isn't actually the 'jungle' at all.

In fact, it's set within the rainforest, with a secret roof to allow the stars to shelter from the rain.

Also, it's not technically a jungle; the terrain has actually been described as a 'lowland subtropical rainforest’ - but this does feel like splitting hairs.

The canopy is important not just to keep our campmates dry, but also to stop recording equipment from getting damp.

Big fans of the show may also have noticed this artificial roof getting lowered to deliver the celebs their winnings from the Bushtucker Trials.

However, an insider told MailOnline: "A lot of the camp is not under shelter - it’s not like the roof at Wimbledon.”

Previous campmate Alison Hammond also confirmed the presence of some sort of canopy over the I'm A Celeb camp.

She spoke on the Saving Grace podcast about her experience of the show, explaining that you can't sunbathe.

“There's trees everywhere and also they've got this canopy for lighting.

“You feel like you're on a camping film set but you can't see the cameras."

Chris Moyles also spoke about a canopy, adding that it doesn't always keep them protected from the elements.

He said: "They have a little canopy that just covers the camp area.

"Just from one bed to the phone box and out like that, but if the rain comes in sideways and you're in the hammock you're screwed."
