Anne Hathaway has apologised for a moment on the red carpet that she described as ‘horrifying’, after footage from the premiere of her latest film was spread online.
The Oscar-winning actress, 43, addressed the viral clip during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where she appeared visibly embarrassed at the prospect of watching it again.
Hathaway had been attending the New York premiere of her latest movie, Verity, alongside several of her co-stars when the unscripted exchange was caught on camera.
The actress, who is currently heavily pregnant with her third child with husband Adam Shulman, admitted the footage had left her cringing despite her intentions at the time being entirely practical.

When Fallon introduced the subject during their interview, Hathaway immediately appeared to realise which moment he was about to bring up, to her horror.

“I know exactly what you’re going to show and it’s horrifying, it is the stuff of nightmares,” she said.
The footage in question showed Hathaway taking charge of the assembled photographers on the red carpet and instructing them on how the cast would pose for pictures.
“We are going to start from the left and then we can make our way that way,” she could be heard telling the photographers, before pointing and counting as the group turned to face different sections of the press line.
Her co-star Dakota Johnson appeared amused by Hathaway’s sudden transformation into red carpet organiser, joking: “And then I’m gonna leave.”
Fallon suggested the actress had slipped into ‘mom mode’ while attempting to bring some order to proceedings.
Hathaway agreed, describing the moment as ‘mom mode by way of chorus line.
She explained that the busy photocall had started to become difficult as photographers attempted to attract the attention of the large group.
“I was trying to be helpful,” Hathaway insisted.
“There were so many of us and the photographers were getting upset, and the vibe was changing,” she recalled.
Her efforts were intended to ensure photographers positioned along different sections of the carpet had an opportunity to get their pictures.

It was only afterwards, she said, that she realised her attempt to organise the situation had itself been captured on video.
“Oh, no,” she confessed.
Hathaway said watching the moment back prompted what she described as an internal ‘full cringe crouch’, in what is probably a hugely relatable sensation for most of us.
“I apologise everybody,” she said. “That girl came out to play last night. Actually, she didn’t come to play. She came for business.”
Verity is a film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling psychological thriller.
Hathaway plays Verity Crawford, a successful author who is left incapacitated following a mysterious accident.
Josh Hartnett plays her husband Jeremy, while Johnson stars as Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired to complete Verity’s unfinished series of books.
As Lowen searches through the author’s notes, she discovers an unpublished manuscript containing disturbing claims about Verity’s life and family, raising questions about what happened before her accident.
Directed by Michael Showalter, the film also stars Ismaël Cruz Córdova and is based on Hoover’s 2018 novel.
It has finished off a jam-packed year of press for Hathaway, with five movies to promote, and she joked online that she now intends to 'vanish into thin air' for a while.
