The Great British Bake Off took a rather dramatic turn during Tuesday's episode (12 November) after Alison Hammond had a tumble in the tent.

Viewers watched on as the five remaining contestants competed in 70s week, in a bid to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with their retro bakes.

Trying to lighten the mood in the tent during the Technical Challenge, where bakers had to make a classic banoffee pie, host Alison wanted to practice some dance moves, but they didn't go exactly as planned.

"I'm just going to add a little bit of happiness in here," she said.

Sitting on one of the work benches, Alison lifted her leg in the air before swinging it to the side, but unfortunately, she ended up falling backwards onto the floor.

It was a pretty shocking moment for both the bakers and viewers at home, with many concerned that the presenter could have hurt herself.

But luckily, Alison could be heard bursting out laughing as she lay face down on the floor and said: "Don't come over here! Leave me, leave me, my shame."

Meanwhile, fellow host Noel Fielding called it the 'best thing' he'd 'ever seen'.

Fans at home couldn't stop laughing, with one writing: "Alison Hammond is the best thing to happen to bake off and no one can change my mind, she’s so real."

While another said: "I laughed when this happened and it brought me back to when Alison was on big brother all those years ago, jumping on the picnic table and going through it... like the legend that she is... love how she laughs no matter what happens.... a joy to watch."

And a third added: "My family and I couldn’t breathe we were laughing so hard."

Meanwhile, a fourth wrote: "I was crying with laughter I hope she was ok and it was just her ego that was bruised."

Incredibly, it was the second time during the show that Alison took a fall.

Earlier in the episode, Noel and Alison were outside the tent when Alison started hopping around the grass on an orange space hopper.

"Yehaw Baby! Ride the pony, baby, ride the pony!" She could be heard shouting, as she proceeded to fall off the hopper, leaving them both in hysterics.

Sadly, Illiyin Morrison was the latest baker to leave the tent after her 'wonky' gateau fell apart.

The Great British Bake Off airs every Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
