Richard Gadd, the creator behind Baby Reindeer, took home the award for best actor in a limited series for his role in the Netflix series at the 2024 Emmys last night.

The comedian starred in all seven episodes of the extremely hard-hitting drama

based on Gadd's real-life experiences with a stalker that first premiered back in April.

In the series, Gadd plays a fictionalised version of himself, Donny Dunn, who finds himself in a terrifying situation when he was relentlessly harassed by a stalker named Martha.

A whole bunch of controversy and even a lawsuit followed after the series was released on Netflix. Some viewers tried to track down the real-life characters from the show - including Martha - despite Gadd's insistence that they shouldn't.

Months later and Gadd has taken home three awards at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards - one for acting and two for writing.

In his touching acceptance speech, the actor shared a powerful message to anyone out there 'going through a difficult time'.

"I never, ever thought I'd get my life together," he revealed. "I never ever thought I'd be able to rectify myself with what had happened to me and get myself back on my feet again."

Gadd carried on: "And then here I am, just over a decade later, picking up one of the biggest writing awards in television.

"Now, I don't mean that to sound arrogant, I mean it as encouragement for anyone who's going through a difficult time right now to persevere."

He continued: "Yeah, I don't know much about this life. I don't know why we're here, none of that, but I do know that nothing lasts forever, and no matter how bad it gets, it always gets better.

"Yeah, so if you're struggling, keep going, keep going, and I promise you, things will be okay.

"Thank you so much for this award."

Since then, fans online have rushed to praise the actor and writer for his efforts.

One TikTok user penned: "He turned his tragedy into a way to tell his story and help others."

"I had NO idea he was the actual person he played that this happened to. Omg!" revealed a second.

A third chimed in: "Richard Gadd the man you are this Emmy is well deserved."

"He is so deserving," gushed a fourth, while a fifth confessed: "Ok I’m crying that was beautiful."

Another echoed: "That gave me goosebumps."

And a final TikTok user added: "So inspiring."
