Adolescence fans have been left seriously shocked after learning the truth about the psychologist’s hair in one of the series' most disturbing scenes.

It's been a little over a week now since the four-part limited series hit Netflix with many of us still in shock over just how expertly the show tackles a number of extremely topical subjects like misogyny, incels, the online 'manosphere', toxic masculinity and children's safety when it comes to the internet.

Arguably, one of the most shocking scenes in the entirety of Adolescence takes place in the third episode where we see 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper), who is accused of the brutal murder of his female classmate, sit down with psychologist Briony Ariston (Erin Doherty), who is called in to assess his understanding of the severe situation at hand.

We first meet Briony when she brings Jamie a hot chocolate, as well as half a cheese and pickle sandwich, before the pair sit down for one of the most haunting pieces of dialogue in the series where the teen's character begins to unravel and we're given a glimpse into his dark and violent nature.

Now, it's clear fans couldn't get enough of this scene and the seriously intense on-screen dynamic between TV newbie Cooper and A Thousand Blows star Doherty.

However, one key detail that probably passed many of us by is that Doherty's character, Briony, who dons a mousy brown side-part bob, was actually wearing a wig for the entire scene.

But, thanks to wig maker, Samuel James, no one even expected it!

The official account took to Instagram over the weekend to post some snaps of the incredible creation with the caption: "Wig made by us for Erin Doherty’s incredible portrayal of child psychologist Briony Ariston.

"Little did we know the impact this series would have and the technical masterpiece behind the filming."

Needless to say, fans of the series couldn't wait to share their disbelief as one Instagram user penned: "Would never have thought that was a wig. Looks completely natural and suits Erin. I wonder why she couldn't just have her own hair?"

"Wow. Never would have thought that was a wig!" admitted a second, while a third chimed in: "Amazing! Would never know this was a wig!!"

Someone else gushed: "This was a wig?!! Gasp. Sooooo good!!"

Another echoed: "IT WAS A WIG!?! You’ve outdone yourself this time!"

And a final Instagram user added: "Hands down the best wig I’ve ever seen. And the application is perfection!"
