Love Island USA's Cierra Ortega loses followers fast after racial slur is found on her account

The Islander has been subjected to mass criticism online

Cierra Ortega, a contestant on the current series of Love Island USA, is said to have lost over 100k followers on Instagram after viewers uncovered a past post containing a racial slur.

The 25-year-old is currently residing in the famous on-screen villa alongside a plethora of singletons, allegedly seeking a partner.

Despite having so far secured herself a 'fan favourite' position on the popular dating series, fans are now calling for her immediate removal from the love-hungry line-up.

The plea comes after a handful of Ortega's long-time social media followers unearthed an image she previously shared, in which she could be seen issuing a slur often deemed offensive by members of the East Asian community.

In a selfie now doing the rounds online, showing the reality star posing in the chair of an aesthetics clinic. On top of the photo, she'd written: "Botox isn’t for everyone but I love it for me!!!

"I am incredibly expressive with my face and I catch myself frowning for no reason throughout the day when I’m focusing on something or thinking too hard lol."

She then added what thousands of critics have branded a racist remark, continuing: "I can also be a little c****y when I laugh/smile so I love getting a mini brow lift to open up my eyes and get that snatched look."

According to one outraged Reddit user, Ortega has since lost hundreds of thousands of followers on the snap-sharing app.

"She had almost 900k before yesterday's episode," they wrote. "And now she's down to 750k."

Another claimed they'd noticed the same loss, adding: "She had over 900k, like 920s or 930s I believe, because I just happened to check. Her friend running her account was bragging that she'd get one million this week."

A third went on to note: "She’s lost thousands of followers so far which is good. The fact that she didn’t clear this from her account before she went on the shows is crazy."

Commenting on the Islander's language in general, another user admitted they were disappointed by the revelation, writing: "I’m so sad she was one of my favs."

Another continued: "There's genuinely no excuse in 2025 to not know that's a slur."

Penning the same message, a sixth added: "Genuinely no excuse with all the (even surface level) knowledge being passed around."

Another enraged viewer went on to hit out: "This is a SLUR!!!! IDC where you’re from or where you grew up, this has been a known slur word. People should be held accountable for their ignorance."

The news comes just weeks after another contestant on the series was removed, after audio from a number of podcasters heard her using racial slurs to describe members of the African-American community.

Pointing on the similarities, one fan of the show questioned: "Yulissa was removed from the show for saying derogatory slurs. Why is racism towards Asians normalized and why should it continue?

"The usage of slurs in common language is not okay, it will never be okay, and she should be called out for it."

Another wrote: "Wait but Yulissa got removed for posting a racist remark….how does one get a swift exit but this does not? It seems that they should be all or nothing. Don’t weigh which slur is worse than another. All is wrong!!"
