Rumer Willis admits daughter’s unique name was inspired by typo

Rumer Willis admits daughter’s unique name was inspired by typo

The name came about by accident, but Rumer immediately 'loved' it

Rumer Willis has revealed that her daughter’s unusual name actually came about because of a typo. That’s going to be a fun story for her to tell in the future, isn’t it?

Rumer and partner Derek Richard Thomas welcomed their first child - a little girl - in April this year, opting to give birth at home with the help of a doula, Derek, her mum Demi Moore and her two sisters.

Following the birth, the new mum announced the happy news on social media while revealing her unique name.

Sharing an adorable snap of the newborn, Rumer, who is the daughter of actor Bruce Willis, shared: “Louetta Isley Thomas Willis. You are pure magic. Born at home on Tuesday April 18th. You are more than we ever dreamed of.”

Her sweet moniker was actually a bit of an accident, with Rumer recently telling People that it came about after Derek misspelled another name over text message and they both decided they liked it.

"We were thinking about the name Loretta, and it was a typo," she explained.

"Her dad and I were texting, and he left the 'R' out of Loretta, and it was just Louetta.

"I was like, 'Oh, I love that!' I feel like it was one of those kind of divine intervention universe moments and we figured it out actually quite early in my pregnancy."

However, while she and her other-half loved the name, Rumer - who herself has an uncommon name - admitted that she had some concerns that it might not be a perfect fit for her little girl before she was born.

"What was scary was, I love this name, but oh man, is it going to be her name?" she said.

"Is it the right name? What if she comes out and doesn't look like this?

"I fell in love with the name so much, so early on, that I was then worried that it wouldn't work.

"But then she came out, and I mean, to me, at least right now, I was going to name her Lou, whether she was a boy or a girl."

Rumer also pointed out that the name can be pretty versatile, so once little Louetta grows, she’s free to ‘change it up’.

"If she doesn't feel like a Louetta, she can go by Lou, she can go by Etta," she said.

"She can go change it up throughout her life. Whatever she wants."
