Online personality JoJo Siwa has sparked controversy after listing her 'essentials' while preparing for evacuation from the Los Angeles wildfires as many in the surrounding area lose their homes.

Several celebrities across LA have spoken out about their houses being devastated as a result of the ongoing wildfires.

10 people have confirmed to have been killed in the disaster, with more than 10,000 buildings also being destroyed in the flames, the BBC reports, as five fires continue to blaze throughout various parts of the county from 7 January.

Earlier today, Los Angeles Police Department arrested a man on suspicion of arson after allegedly been spotted attempting to start a fire, which is currently 'being investigated as a crime'.

As many of us will know, LA is the home to some of the most famous of faces, and a number of celebrities have found themselves affected by the wildfires, with many having lost their homes or having to evacuate the area with their families.

One of which is online sensation JoJo Siwa, who has faced backlash after posting the things she was attempting to bring with her while preparing for evacuation.

While some scramble to collect cherished photographs, pets, and memories, the star showcased the prized possessions she was attempting to save - namely a glitzy black bodysuit which she wore to the 2024 iHeart Radio Awards.

She branded a number of stage outfits as 'essential', while many celebrities are sharing how their homes have been reduced to rubble and ash.

She and her Australian girlfriend Kath Ebbs prepared to evacuate her home, capturing the moment for Instagram.

In and amongst the so-called 'essentials' was a glitzy hi-vis jacket, which she has worn in recent interviews.

But people online were quick to point out how 'tone deaf' the move felt.

One said: "What about all the people who are losing their homes, family, pets and belongings? What about wildlife? Why post this?"

Another added: "We care about the people who don't have the money to rebuild their lives after the fires."

And a third noted: "I think there are more important things to talk about."

In another clip, JoJo contemplated bringing another outfit.

She said: "It's my BOOMERANG costume. This is my entire life! How about this? I'll leave it on the counter and if in the midst of a fire I'm like 'Wait, Boomerang costume,' that means I really really want it. I would be DEVASTATED if I lost this."

Kath later updated fans letting them know that the two didn't have to evacuate JoJo's multi-million dollar property.

Tyla has contacted Siwa's reps for comment.
