Jenna Ortega revealed that she deleted her social media account after receiving 'dirty edited content' of her younger self.

The child star was just nine-years-old when she shot to fame, and has had a life in the spotlight ever since.

But she recently revealed in an interview with the New York Times that life as a famous teen is not all it seems.

She recalled encountering a 'terrifying' experience when she was just 12, which later led her to deleting her X account, then known as Twitter.

During the interview, she explained that she 'hated' AI technology, and what can be made if the tools get into the wrong hands.

The Wednesday actress revealed that she was subject to AI generated pornographic images of herself as a child.

She said: "Did I like being 14 and making a Twitter account because I was supposed to and seeing dirty edited content of me as a child? No.

"It’s terrifying. It’s corrupt. It’s wrong."

She also recalled the first direct message she was sent being an unsolicited picture of a male genitals.

"And that was just the beginning of what was to come," she said.

"I used to have that Twitter account and I was told that, 'Oh, you got to do it, you got to build your image.'"

But the influx of graphic images got so bad after she starred in Wednesday in 2022, that she decided to delete her account all together.

She said: "It was disgusting, and it made me feel bad.

"It made me feel uncomfortable.

"Anyway, that’s why I deleted it, because I couldn’t say anything without seeing something like that.

"So one day I just woke up, and I thought, 'Oh, I don’t need this anymore.'

"So I dropped it."

Ortega's concerns point to a growing number of nonconsensual AI-generated deepfakes that are circulating the internet.

Different apps and programmes are making it easier than ever to 'undress' or 'nudify' photos.

And Ortega isn't the only star to become a victim of this.

Taylor Swift also became a target of such technology, after nonconsensual deepfakes of her nude went massively viral on X.

Ortega told the Times that she is still learning how to navigate the online world, and how to protect herself when technology seems to be changing constantly.
