Child star Haley Joel Osment had been arrested at a ski resort in California.

The American actor - who sky-rocketed to fame in the mid 90s after being cast alongside Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump - was apprehended by police on 8 April at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area.

For those in need of a reminder of Osment's other projects, as a youngster, he also landed a starring role in psychological-thriller The Sixth Sense alongside Bruce Willis and Toni Colette.

Aged just 10 at the time, the gig saw him nominated for an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild - though, he only walked away with a Saturn Award when the accolades rolled around.

As an adult, the movie star has appeared in gory horror Tusk, comedy flick Sex Ed, and the 2019 biographical Ted Bundy crime-drama Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.

More recently, Osment was one of the many celebrities who lost their homes in the LA wildfires.

TMZ was the first to report that the child star had been arrested for both public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance earlier this month.

Page Six confirmed the claims with local police on Wednesday (16 April).

The publication claims that a Mammoth Lakes Police Department media bulletin revealed that ski patrol was with the 'unruly skier' when officers arrived, who was later identified as Osment.

After being charged, he was sent to a lab for testing before being released.

The Mono County district attorney’s office have yet to decide whether to prosecute the case.

Tyla has contacted Osment's representatives for a comment.

This week's run-in with police isn't the first time that the Hollywood veteran had been arrested. In 2006, he was picked up by officers after being found to have driven into a brick pillar whilst under the influence of alcohol.

As well as being taken in, Osment sustained both shoulder and rib injuries.

He pleaded no contest for one count of DUI, and one count of marijuana possession at the time.

As a result, Osment was sentenced to three years of probation and a $1,500 fine - as well as 60 hours of alcohol rehabilitation and six months of meeting with Alcoholics Anonymous.

In an interview with the Guardian in 2020, Osment said the DUI incident was the 'terrible mistake' of an arrogant teenager, adding: "It could not have had less to do with Hollywood."

He added that the stereotype of child stars having a 'spectacular blowup' as they grew older was not as prevalent as many believed, saying: "I think the percentage of people having a positive experience working as children is much higher than most people imagine."
