Elle Fanning’s boyfriend once shouted a hilariously awkward four-word statement at Jack Black that revealed her true feelings about him.

The pair sent fans into a right frenzy after posing for a selfie during the Golden Globes back in January, captioning the post: "Also THIS! Life made!"

The 26-year-old Maleficent actress has since opened up about the interaction during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon which aired last week (12 December).

Discussing meeting Black, 55, for the first time, Fanning gushed: "It has made my life!"

She went on to reveal that she, her sister and her friends all have a group chat together that's 'basically dedicated to how hot Jack Black is'.

"Like, he is our perfect man. Like, beyond," Fanning confessed.

Discussing the crush over the School of Rock star some more, she added: "We send each other clips of him all the time, and, like, specifically the saxophone clip from on the show.

"It's iconic."

Explaining how she wound up getting a selfie with her celebrity crush, Fanning recalled: "We were waiting for our cars at the valet at the same time, and my boyfriend was with me, he was like, 'Go up to him, go up to him,' and he convinced me to, and I did."

It was at this point, however, that Fanning's boyfriend, Rolling Stone CEO Gus Wenner, decided to reveal the secret.

"Then my boyfriend yelled to him, he was like, 'You're her hall pass, by the way!'" she joked.

Black, who was at the awards ceremony with his wife, musician Tanya Haden, clearly found the whole thing hilarious too as he 'loved' the remark.

"We were laughing," Fanning added. "I mean, I was turning bright red. I, like, still am."

After catching light of Fanning's 'hall pass', fans rushed to social media to share their reactions with one admitting: "I understand this on such a deep level. There is something about his genius humour and his heart that captivates the world."

A second gushed: "Hot and funny. And musician. That's the trifecta."

"Knew I wasn’t alone in this! He’s proper hot!" revealed a third, while a fourth piped up: "She is so real and she is me I am her."

Another echoed: "I mean, that's one of top 5."

And a final fan penned: "Okay guys hear me out Jack Black in The Holiday was pretty charming just sayinnnnnng."
