Dolly Parton’s Walk of Fame star vandalised as new update on incident emerges

Repairs are underway after Dolly Parton’s Walk of Fame star was shockingly vandalised, a week after her death.

The ‘Jolene’ singer, who died on 25 August aged 80 following a 'brief battle' with cancer, originally received her star in 1984 alongside Sylvester Stallone after the pair co-starred in the 1984 movie Rhinestone.

It’s sat in the iconic location for more than 40 years, but now, it’s been revealed that someone decided to cruelly vandalise it with ‘scratch marks’.

ABC 7 News reported that the vandal scratched over the singer's name and repair work began on Tuesday (1 September).

In a statement to PEOPLE Magazine, Ana Martinez, the spokesperson for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, said: “A fan went to the star yesterday and reported on social that the star was vandalised with many scratches.

The spokesperson confirmed: “From the photo she posted, it does appear the star was vandalised with scratches.

“This repair was set up late last week, and the crew just completed the first part of making said repairs.”

Martinez added: “The star repairs are currently ongoing and are done by the Hollywood Historic Trust, which maintains and repairs the Walk of Fame stars. The star will cure and will be polished on Friday for fans to enjoy.”

Reacting to news of the vandalised star, one fan wrote on X: “Dolly Parton’s legacy is bigger than a scratched-up star. Absolute disrespect, but thankfully it’s being repaired. Dolly forever.”

While a second added: “Dolly Parton’s legacy is bigger than any act of vandalism.... Her kindness, music, and impact can’t be scratched away.”

A third chimed in with: “There are some truly despicable people out there…” while a fourth agreed: “Dolly is a national treasure. So glad they are fixing it quickly. You can’t scratch away her legacy.”

It comes as, following her death, mourning fans have flocked to the Hollywood star to lay bouquets of flowers.

Meanwhile, Dolly’s family grieved at an intimate memorial service on Friday (August 28), as reported by US Magazine, as the country singer’s niece Lainey confirmed that her aunt was put to rest.

She wrote on Instagram: “This is a really hard post for me to make. I wanted to wait until after my granny was laid to rest yesterday before I tried to put any of this into words.

“From the time I was little, my granny always had a way of making me feel like I was enough. She never made my dreams feel too big or made me feel like I couldn’t do something. She believed in me before I even knew how to believe in myself.”

Lainey emotionally continued: “Most people can think of at least one bad memory with everyone in their family. I honestly can’t think of one with her.”

She added: “It still doesn’t feel real that she’s gone. I’m going to miss her voice, her laugh, her hugs, and just knowing she was there. I’m even going to miss those 4 AM calls, and I’d give anything to see her name pop up on my phone again.”
