Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds broke the one ‘rule’ they established 14 years ago

In working so hard on their recent movies, the couple seem to have broken one of their golden rules

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have recently broken the one rule they established 14 years ago.

Lively and Reynolds are one of the most popular Hollywood couples and have been married for 12 years in September.

The pair first met on the set of Green Lantern and were mates before their relationship developed into something more.

The live-action flick saw the father-of-four playing the titular DC Comics character while Lively portrayed his love interest, Carol Ferris.

At the time, Lively was dating Penn Badgley, 37, while Reynolds was married to Scarlett Johansson, 39, but dating rumours didn’t spark until after the pair had officially split from their other halves.

More recently, the couple, who now have four children together - James, nine, Inez, seven, Betty, four, and newborn Olin - have been promoting their most recent work.

While Reynolds is busy with Deadpool and Wolverine, Lively has been out promoting It Ends With Us.

But in working so hard, the couple seem to have broken one of their golden rules.

A few years ago, Lively spoke to her friend and co-star Amber Tamblyn about her marriage with Reynolds.

She explained that they wanted to ‘prioritise our personal life’ above work commitments.

Especially since they now have children, the couple have a lot of things they have to juggle so wanted to be giving their kids, work and relationship the time it deserves to flourish.

As part of this rule, the Gossip Girl actress revealed that they don’t let their work schedules clash and made ‘a rule not to work at the same time’.

Speaking on Tamblyn's Substack show, Further Ado, Lively said: "That takes working really hard when we're not.

"Just like financial planning and sustaining that; it takes balance."

However, with the pair's promo tours clashing recently, it seems they may have bent this rule ever so slightly.

Despite their schedules, Reynolds recently explained to Access Hollywood: "We don’t split up. Like, I shoot movies and my wife shoots movies, and we travel all over the place, and we just all go together.

"I think that’s been the best part of it is that we really don’t spend a lot of time apart. I get to spend a lot of time with my girls."

While the pair keep their family life pretty private, Lively recently opened up about the beginning of her relationship with Reynolds.

Whilst promoting her new movie, based on the novel of the same name by Colleen Hoover, Lively confessed her husband used to send her flowers every week.

"When my husband and I first got together, he would send me a bouquet of flowers every week," the mum-of-four told PEOPLE.

“But he would always send a card and it would just be a sentence of something that had happened that week. Something funny or emotional that one of us said.

"It was just a little quote of the week. It was such a beautiful, romantic thing. Now we have 4,000 children!”
