Addison Rae reveals she’s changing her name

The 24-year-old 'Diet Pepsi' star opened up about the reason behind the moniker switch-up

When it comes to pop culture right now, it's clear that the likes of Addison Rae is one of the biggest names in the biz.

Born Addison Rae Easterling, the 24-year-old American TikTok star turned singer has just last week (6 June) released her debut album featuring beloved dance-pop hits like 'Diet Pepsi', 'Aquamarine', 'Money is Everything' and - of course - 'Headphones On'.

However, while many of her loyal fans have been referring to the social media star since she first popped onto the scene in 2019 as 'Addison Rae', it's clear that she's now opting for a different stage name altogether.

Appearing on Quenlin Blackwell's Feeding Starving Celebrities YouTube series a few days after the album's release (8 June), the singer revealed that she's since decided to ditch the second half of her name and instead now just go by 'Addison' - which is fitting considering that's the name of her much-anticipated debut album.

"I said it in an interview, I was just like, 'Oh, I think I've grown past being called Addison Rae'," Addison recalled in the hour-long interview. "Then the album being named Addison kind of was a tie-in for that."

However, it's clear that Addison is well aware that the new stage name may not be as easily adopted by her adoring fans who have been used to calling her the two-name moniker for over half a decade now.

"Whoever knows me as Addison Rae and knew me as Addison Rae," she continued, "will always know me as that."

She also joked that dropping the 'Rae' from her name will have another benefit in making signing autographs a whole lot easier.

"I just am really tired of signing 'Addison Rae'," she carried on. "It's really long, and I would just rather sign 'Addison'."

Noting that the change 'just makes more sense', Addison added: "It's going back to the roots really."

Opening up about choosing her own name as the title for her album, Addison admitted: "Sometimes people will do a song on the album as the title, and I kinda played with that a little bit.

"But when you do hear all the music straight through, there’s not really a title that encompasses all of it."

She added: "Everybody I played it to as well, they were just like 'Oh, it just sounds like you, it sounds like music you would make'.
