It was just a matter of time.

We've had a Tiger King shaped hole in our lives for some time now, ever since the hugely popular Netflix show was released several weeks ago.

But Tiger King fans - fear not. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. According to reports, there's a TV adaptation on the way starring Nicolas Cage as Joe Exotic.

Yep, as reported by Variety, the series will focus predominantly on the gun-toting, mullet-sporting former zoo owner and his downfall.

It will delve into how Joe Schreibvogel became Joe Exotic, and how he lost himself while trying to save his zoo.

It's based on the Texas Monthly article 'Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild' by Leif Reigstad and is set to be produced by Imagine Television Studios alongside CBS Television Studios.

Dan Lagana (American Vandal, Deadbeat) is expected to serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer while Cage will also executive produce via Saturn Films.

The Netflix docu-series, Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness told Joe's story through a mix of archival footage and recent interviews.

It revealed the prolific big cat breeder became somewhat of a local celebrity, unsuccessfully running for state governor and even President of the United States at one point.

However, a dark side was bubbling under the surface and in January, Joe was sentenced to 22 years in prison for two murder-for-hire plots against his longtime critic and rival, animal rights activist Carole Baskin, as well as multiple wildlife violations.

When Tiger King was first released, Joe was said to be *loving* the fame after receiving tons of fan mail. And although he was hoping for Brad Pitt to play him if a movie on his life was ever released, we reckon he would be pretty chuffed with Cage.

It will be the actor's first regular television role, having been praised for his catalogue of film work including Moonstruck, National Treasure Ghost Rider. He also won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Leaving Las Vegas.

While it's expected to be some time before the show arrives on our screens, we can't wait to hear more details - and we're *desperate* to find out who'll be playing Carole Baskin...
