It may be one of Netflix's newest TV shows, but The Queen's Gambit already has a dedicated fanbase, with many viewers calling the new limited series the "best show they've seen all year".

Based on a 1983 novel of the same name by Walter Tevis, the programme follows young chess prodigy Beth Harmon from the age of nine to 22 during her quest to become the world's greatest chess player.

"In a 1950s orphanage," the show's synopsis reads, "a young girl reveals an astonishing talent for chess and begins an unlikely journey to stardom while grappling with addiction."
