Really, what was your childhood if it wasn't spent watching Kenan and Kel on repeat? It's enough to make any nineties kid nostalgic.

So you'll likely be as excited as us to learn that Kenan Thompson from Kenan and Kel has now got his own TV sitcom in the works. Yep, he's back!

The actor, who has since found fame on Saturday Night Live and Bring The Funny overseas, is officially working with NBC to perfect the concept before it arrives on screens.

The family comedy - written by Jackie Clarke and directed and executive produced by Chris Rock - will centre around Kenan as a widowed dad to two young girls, who is shown juggling fatherhood, his job and a very unhelpful father-in-law who is innocently trying to lighten the load.

There are some familiar faces in the cast too, with The Godfather and Ocean's Eleven star Andy Garcia playing Kenan's father-in-law and rising child stars and Instagram personalities Dani and Dannah Lockett taking on the role of his daughters.

Special and Kevin from Work star Puma Patel also co-stars.

While the channel originally commissioned the show back in May last year, representatives have since spoken out and told fans they'll be giving Kenan time to get the show just right before anybody sees it. Therefore, there is no official update on when the show will hit screens.

Paul Telegdy, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, said: "When a star is given to this network time and time again, we reciprocate.

"What we gave Kenan back was time, time to create a show he wants, time to do the projects he's doing and that he loves, and a little time for his family.

"So The Kenan Show will come next season, and I think it's stronger, smarter and funnier than it would be if we forced it through the traditional cycle".

The sitcom is great news for fans of Kenan and Kel - a Nickelodeon show that focused on the misadventures of two best friends from Chicago.

In the series, the pair often landed in trouble due to Kenan's elaborate get-rich-quick schemes. Meanwhile, orange soda loving Kel tried his best to join in but often just ended up messing things up.

While Kenan has since found stardom on SNL, he also recently teamed up with Kel Mitchell to executive produce a reboot of comedy series All That.

As well as being a recurring cast-member in the series, Kel now hosts TV series Tails of Valor, and also appeared on Dancing With The Stars last year.
