Jenna Coleman has spoken about the struggles that came with her new role as a grief-stricken mum in new BBC drama, The Cry.
The harrowing drama is a four-part miniseries follows Jenny's character, new mum Joanna, whose son is cruelly snatched from the back of her car during a trip to Australia, where her husband is fighting for custody of his 14-year-old daughter.
Joanna faces trial by the law and by the media after the traumatic event and Jenny has revealed how she felt 'miscast' playing a mum, despite not yet having children of her own.
"I spend a good first chunk of it thinking they'd completely miscast - and why on earth me?," she told Metro.

"I'm not a mother. I kind of hit myself over the head with it. I felt there was obviously something I wouldn't be able to capture and I've really struggled with that."
The Cry really highlights the less glamorous side of being a new mum as Joanna struggles to bond with her son Noah as a result of the exhaustion and endless sleepless nights.
Thankfully, the dark nature of the drama hasn't quite put Jenny off being a mum altogether, however she did admit it had "opened my eyes to the realities of motherhood.

"And to what a lot of my friends are experiencing perhaps at the moment. And, I think, people don't really talk about it that much. But it's not scared me forever."
The drama is based on the novel by Helen Fitzgerald, with producer Claire Mundell admitting she immediately proposed it to the BBC.
She said: "I first read the novel in 2006 and I remember being gripped by the first page.

"I think the story of a couple - particularly a woman and woman like Joanna - caught in a situation as she finds herself, I'd never seen a protagonist in a domestic set thriller that was so accessible and captured so many things at once - what is it to be a young mother and so many things we don't talk about.
"It was all wrapped up in this incredible page-turner of a thriller. I just couldn't stop reading it."
The Cry starts on at 9pm on BBC One on 30th September.
