*WARNING - THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR FRIENDS: THE REUNION*

Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer have given fans the news they've all been waiting for - they had *real* feelings for each other during the filming of Friends.

Yep, all the chemistry in those Ross and Rachel scenes - including their first kiss at Central Perks (more on that later) - had some truth behind them.

Jennifer, 52, and David, 54, confirmed the news during the Friends reunion special, which dropped this morning, after host James Corden asked if any of the cast members had off-screen romances.

"Will you allow me to ask what I would consider a cheeky question," James says. "It's hard not to recognise that you're all young, hot, good-looking successful actors. It's inconceivable to me that there weren't perhaps off screen romances."

After a short pause, Jennifer looks at David from across the sofa and says: "Well... I mean... David... the first season."

David adds: "The first season... we... I had a major crush on Jen."

"It was reciprocated," Jennifer replies.

David then explains the real-life romantic feelings between the pair and why they weren't able to become a couple off-screen.

"At some point we were both crushing hard on each other," he says. "But it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship and we never crossed that boundary and we both respected that."

Matt LeBlanc quips: "Bullsh*t", as the crowd erupts in laughter.

Ross and Rachel famously had their first kiss at the Central Perk Cafe in the season 2 episode 'The One Where Ross Finds Out' which is now considered one of the best episodes of television ever.

But in a rather sad turn of events, Jennifer reveals the pair were never able to truly explore their feelings. She even admitted to David at the time that she didn't want their first kiss to be 'on national TV'.

"I remember saying to David, 'It's gonna be really such a bummer if the first time you and I actually kiss is gonna be on national television' and sure enough the first time we kissed was in that coffee shop."

Our jaws are on the floor.

In a pre-recorded segment, Jennifer and David Schwimmer recreate the the scene during a table read of the original script from the iconic episode. Later on David, who admits he and Jennifer would cuddle on the sofa between scenes, asks the rest of the cast how they didn't know that the pair were crushing on each other.

"We knew," says Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox at the same time.
