Well, that was unexpected.

First Dates viewers were left cringing when a woman shared her diarrhoea issues with her visibly uncomfortable date.

The popular dating show was revisiting some of its most memorable scenes, and replayed the hilariously awkward moment between AJ and his blind date, Mula.

Watch the clip here:

The conversation started because AJ revealed his new gym regime involved drinking protein shakes, which 'messed up his stomach'.

"I just started [gym training], literally - so a year," he said. "I was on protein shakes but it just messes up your stomach."

To which Mula unexpectedly replied: "Do you get diarrhoea?"

Looking a little perplexed, and clearly not expecting bowel issues to be a subject of conversation on his blind date, AJ asked his date what she meant.

Mula continued to add further details, saying: "I've been getting diarrhoea. I've been using this waist trainer. You put it on, super tight, and gives you diarrhoea."

Looking more awkward by the second, AJ styled out the conversation as best he could.

"Oh... cause it's compact? I see, I see," he responded nervously.

Horrified viewers took to Twitter to share their shock and amusement at the toilet-themed chat.

"omg why would you mention that you've been getting diarrhoea to your date," commented one.

"Diarrhea, lovely topic for a first dates," said another.

A third chimed in: "Mentioning diarrhea on a date is not the best way to make a good impression."

While another fan added: "Imagine going on a blind date and talking about your bowel movements to a stranger."

Generally, we're all up for women being open about their toilet dramas - but maybe not on a first date with a stranger, Mula!

Hats off to AJ, who handled the conversation well.
