Coronavirus has had a huge impact on so many things we love this year - but now it has gone one step too far.

Tonight, the new season of Great British Bake Off will be delayed by 15 minutes, so Channel 4 can slot in Prime Minister Boris Johnson's address to the nation, which begins at 8pm.

Taking to Twitter, Channel 4 explained: "Update to tonight's schedule... The new series of The Great British Bake Off will begin at 8.15pm on Channel 4 #GBBO."

And let's just say fans are not happy - after all, haven't we waited long enough for Bake Off?!

One tweeted: "How does Boris Johnson expect to gain the trust of the British public when he's intentionally delaying the start of Bake Off?"

While another said: "More restrictions? Sound. Another lockdown? Fine by me. Delaying the Great British bake off by 15 minutes so we have to listen to Boris? Absolutely bang out of order."

A third joked: "Dammit Boris! We've had a bad enough year without having to delay the start of Bake off for your announcement."

"Address the nation? Fine. Delay the new series of Great British Bake Off? AV A WORD BOJO!" Tweeted another.

Boris' address to the British public will reiterate his announcement made in the House of Commons earlier today.

Mapping out the new rules for England, the PM announced 10pm curfews in pubs and restaurants, returning to working from home where possible, increased fines for failure to wear a mask or self isolate, and halving the number of guests allowed at weddings to just 15.

The rule change comes after the country's Covid-19 alert level has risen from three to four - the second highest - meaning the "epidemic is in general circulation; transmission is high or rising exponentially".

"I'm sorry to say that as in Spain and France and many other countries, we've reached a perilous turning point," said Boris.

"A month ago around 1,000 people across the UK were testing positive for coronavirus, today the number has almost trebled."

The Prime Minister warned restrictions could be in place for as long as six months, but that they would be constantly reviewed.
