The Bachelorette has come under fire after one contestant was 'forced' to admit he was a virgin during a sex themed date.

Viewers branded the scenes - which showed 31 year old Mike Planeta admit to Kate Thurston that he was waiting until marriage to have sex - hard to watch.

It came during a group date, where the bachelors were asked a ton of sexual questions, such as when they last had sex and what their favourite sex position was.

Mike had said in a confessional that he planned on telling 30-year-old Katie that he was a virgin at a later time, when the moment felt right.

But the game left him with little choice in the matter.

While he mysteriously answered every question thrown his way with a '?', while the other men bragged about their body counts, the San Diego gym owner later started crying and admitted to being "uncomfortable" with the situation.

He managed to push through the awkward date and even got to the last challenge, which was showing Katie a form of intimacy on stage.

At this point, Mike chose to spill his feelings in a poem.

It read: "To my future wife, I always pictured what you were like. Would you be tender or passionate? Funny or shy?

"At last, what kind of mother would you be? I always wanted you to feel loved and honored.

"And the best way to show you this is to save myself for you. Love is hard, sometimes physically, sometimes literally."

"But I want you to know that I would wait another 31 years for sex if it was worth it to you that I sacrificed everything to make you feel beautiful and secure."

Katie sobbed as she heard the poem, telling Mike: "That was so beautiful.

"Mike acknowledged he knows who I am. For him to choose to be here for me with who I am, it was the greatest feeling. I get choked up just talking about it," she later reflected.

However, reacting to the scenes, some viewers weren't as impressed.

"Producers whenever someone says they're a virgin - put on sex-forward date," one person wrote.

"The Virgin on the group date and has to discuss how he'd sexually please her. Little predictable and seems overly cruel," said another.

"I feel so uncomfortable for Mike," wrote a third.

"Most girls, when they look at me, think I have a huge ego and I'm a player. But that's not actually morally where I'm at.

"So I'm saving myself for marriage, so I've never had sex," Mike previously told viewers in the show's opening VT.
