A trailer has dropped for the new American Pie film, Girls' Rules.

The new female-centred spin-off film follows a group of schoolmates on a mission to spice up their love lives during their final year on campus.

Directed by Mike Elliott, the film's cast includes Madison Pettis, Natasha Behnam, Piper Curda, Lizze Broadway and Darren Barnet.

Barry Bostwick, from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, also appears in a small role, as 'PeePaw'.

The official synopsis teases: "The boys won't know what hit them when these sassy sweethearts are calling the shots.

"Wild parties, sexy adventures and a Stifler bring the heat in this hot new slice of American Pie!"

Yep, still sounds very much like the same old American Pie franchise, then - just with a female twist!

In the trailer, we see the girls make a pact to revamp their luck in the love department, but what ensues proves it won't be as easy as they think.

The new spin-off is going straight to DVD and digital (
Universal Pictures)

American Pie first hit movie screens in 1999, and centred around a group of male students trying to lose their virginities during their prom night.

The main characters were Jim, Kevin, Oz, Finch, and Stifler, and they all had their own issues in the love department.

Stifler is the only one to have already left his virginity, and the rest of the boys are on a mission to catch up with him.

Following the original hit, we've seen three sequels: American Pie 2 (2001), American Pie: The Wedding (2003) and American Reunion (2012).

The new spin-off is following a group of female leads (
Universal Pictures)

They were followed by the spin-offs, Band Camp (2005), The Naked Mile (2006), Beta House (2007) and The Book of Love (2009) - which all received slightly less favourable reviews.

Girls' Rules will be skipping the cinema and landing on DVD and digital first, before landing on Netflix "soon after".

We'll update you as soon as we have an official date.
