Selena Gomez has accused Justin Bieber of "emotional abuse" in an interview with National Public Radio (NPR) this weekend.

The 27-year-old singer said she was "a victim" during the seven-year on-off relationship and confirmed her recent song, 'Lose You To Love Me' is about her ex, Justin.

Chatting to NPR's Lulu Garcia-Navarro on Sunday, Selena spoke about moving on from her relationship with Justin, who is now married to Hailey Bieber (formerly Baldwin).

"It's dangerous to stay in a victim mentality. And I'm not being disrespectful, I do feel I was a victim to certain abuse," she said.

When Lulu asked whether she meant "emotional abuse" Selena responded: "Yes, and I think that it's something that - I had to find a way to understand it as an adult. And I had to understand the choices I was making.

"As much as I definitely don't want to spend the rest of my life talking about this, I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I've ever felt and I've found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible."

Selena and Justin, 25, dated on and off from 2011 to 2018, when the pair rekindled their relationship for the last time. Shortly after their split, Justin got together with Hailey, who he had previously dated years earlier.

It's believed the line, 'In two months, you replaced us/Like it was easy' from Selena's track, 'Lose You To Love Me' refers to Justin moving on.

Selena admitted she was "very proud" of the track, but emphasised that it's "not a hateful song".

Explaining how she felt she hadn't had a "respectful closure" from the break-up, she said 'Lose You To Love Me' allowed her to say the things she wished she'd said at the time.

While Justin hasn't yet responded, he did address his past on Instagram last September.

In the lengthy post, he said he "abused all of his relationships" and admitted being "disrespectful to women".

"I started doing pretty heavy drugs at 19 and abused all of my relationships," he wrote.

"I became resentful, disrespectful to women, and angry. I became distant to everyone who loved me, and I was hiding behind a shell of a person that I had become."

Selena also added that while her and Justin's relationship was "beautiful" she's happy it's over and is now moving into a new chapter of her life.

Justin's representatives did not provide a comment to NPR. Tyla has also reached out for comment.
