Shaughna Phillips has opened up about her Love Island experience, revealing how her journey on the show was affected by thoughts that she was 'there to tick a box'.

Shaughna, who appeared on the first-ever winter edition of the dating show in 2020, has spoken openly about her confidence struggles both in the Love Island villa and when she left.

Speaking to Tyla ahead of the launch of her new wellness plan, Shaughna, who lost 4 stone before appearing on the ITV show, said: "When I was in Love Island a lot of my journey was marred by thoughts that I was just the fat girl in there. I was there to tick a box.

"It was probably at the forefront of my mind with every single thing I did in there, and when I look back I just think, you looked fine, you looked amazing.

"That was the opportunity of a lifetime, and although I did enjoy it and it was amazing, I could have enjoyed it more had I just let go of how I looked."

Speaking about what it was like to leave the villa and be thrust into the spotlight, she adds: "I'm quite thick skinned and although you never know what you're signing up to, I did know I was opening a door I could never shut.

"Nothing prepares you for having loads of people having an opinion on you. I really try not to look at comments now because I'm literally one click away from seeing something that could totally affect my day. You're never going to change what trolls think of you."

The influencer has created a fitness, nutrition and lifestyle plan to empower women to be 'the most confident version of themselves'.

She insists 'Be You With Shaughna' isn't about weight loss, rather promoting 'confidence, fitness and nutrition' through a range of content including tutorials and recipes.

"It's not about going from a size 14 to a size 8 if you follow this plan," she explains. "It's about having something that you can put into your life and not feel it's a chore, because as soon as it feels like a chore, you've lost half the battle."
