Man shocked after realising Rihanna paid him $500,000 to move out of his house for one week

Man shocked after realising Rihanna paid him $500,000 to move out of his house for one week

She may have sung about having a Californian King Bed, but Rihanna paid top dollar for a rental home whilst preparing for the halftime show.

It’s been three months since Rihanna’s Superbowl performance, but the halftime show has proved to be one for the history books.

Not only did over five million people tune in to see the ‘Umbrella’ singer’s comeback gig, but she also stunned fans by revealing she was pregnant with her second child.

Though viewers couldn’t keep their eyes off the screen, the performance was actually life-changing for one Arizonan man.

That man was Spyro Malaspinas, a cybersecurity expert who rented out his five-bedroom home to the A-lister for a week before her performance.

Having built a lucrative career in cybersecurity, Malaspinas had purchased a 6,400-square-foot home in Paradise Valley for an eye-watering $7.3 million ($5.8m).

In the run-up to the big gig, he was asked by a property management firm whether he would be willing to rent out the luxurious home.

As Malaspinas had already worked with the company before, he was offered a staggering $500,000 (£403k) to rent his home for the week.

Of course, the 48-year-old couldn’t refuse, and he accepted - completely unaware that an A-lister was about to crash at his home.

"The last thing I am is a real estate baron,” he joked as he recalled the story to the Wall Street Journal.

He added: "My pride’s not that big. I don’t mind moving out for $500,000 a week."

Understandably, Malaspinas was elated, as the fee he received would cover his mortgage repayments for the next two years.

However, he didn’t discover who had rented the palatial pad until he signed a release form stating that Rihanna would be occupying the property.

"My [13-year-old] daughter was absolutely thrilled," he admitted to the Wall Street Journal.

While Malaspinas hasn’t moved back just yet, he did reveal that he had been offered 'crazy amounts of money' to sell the home.

Located close to Phoenix and Scottsdal, the property was perfectly placed for Rihanna to get to the State Farm Stadium in Glendale – which is only a 30-minute drive away.

The short drive was vital as Rihanna was pregnant with her second child, announcing that she was expecting during the NFL gig.

She has already welcomed her first child with rapper and producer, A$AP Rocky, with the little boy arriving last May.

However, the ‘Don’t Stop the Music’ singer has yet to confirm when her second child will be born and has remained tight-lipped about her pregnancy.
