Janet Jackson has revealed what it's like being a single working mother, having given birth to her son at the age of 50.

On 3 January, 2017, the All For You singer gave birth to a baby boy named Eissa Al Mana.

The birth came as a surprise to some of Jackson's fans given her older age.

The musician has since opened up about motherhood and her thoughts on having joined it slightly later on in life.

Shortly after giving birth to her son, Jackson and her husband, Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana, decided to go their separate ways.

Despite having split up, Jackson moved to London to be close to her ex-partner in 2019 so the pair could be equally as close to their young son.

Juggling her singing career as well as being a single mum, Jackson told Grazia in 2019, she's 'sure' she will likely 'need someone in the future' to 'help here and there' but is loving being single.

"I’ve always been a patient person, but there’s more patience that you have to have [in motherhood] and I never knew I was as patient as I really am. He’s first and foremost in my life. I get up, I go to sleep - everything is about him," she explained.

Addressing the age she gave birth to her son, Jackson sees it at as a 'gift' from God.

Having her son has also helped her to love herself more too.

The singer told InStyle: "I feel like I’m being corny here, but it’s just the honest truth: I feel most beautiful when I’m with my son, because of the gift that God has given me and that he allowed me to do so at that age.

"My baby is so sweet and so healthy, so happy and so full of love."

Janet's age giving birth to her son received a mixed response online.

However, it's been a massive support and ray of hope for many women who hope to conceive later on in life.

One Twitter user wrote: "Omg Naomi Campbell became mum! She is over 50. Such an encouragement to all of us! Janet Jackson had her first baby when she was 50 as well. You can get it if you really want and if that’s meant to be!"

"Janet Jackson First time full mum @ 50 ... Happy you are doing it for yourself with God on your side," another commented.

A third said: "Amazing Janet Jackson becoming a mum at 50 amazing."

Jackson's son has since turned five, the singer having posted on Instagram on 3 January, 2022, wishing him a happy birthday.

She wrote: "You're growing up so fast. Such an intelligent beautiful boy. Wishing you a life full of magical moments.

"You're Mama's Luv.

"Happy 5th Birthday baby!"
