You might want to check your own kit after this... Or not

Air fryer owners have been sent into a tizzy after a TikTok user unveiled a hidden part of the contraption they’ve never cleaned before.

We’ve all found ourselves on CleanTok at one stage of our social media scroll, right?

If you’re unfamiliar, it’s a side of social media where influencers document their tried-and-tested tidying hacks, produce brutally honest product reviews and provide soapy ASMR videos.

However, one clip featuring a deep clean of an air fryer has divided viewers and left them all saying the same thing.

Taking to TikTok last November, an account under the moniker @justcleanit uploaded a 20-second clip of a dirty air fryer.

Over the top of the video, shared with the account’s 337,000 followers, the user wrote: “Is there a proper way to clean this or should I just pretend I didn’t notice?”

The women then horrified users by tipping up the air fryer and showing the grimy inside.

Dirt and what appeared to be burned food could be seen caked above the heating element.

To make matters worse, the user lightly swiped some kitchen roll across the filthy top and came away with a wad of gunk stuck to the paper.

In the viral video’s caption, the user questioned: “How do you clean the top of an air fryer?”

The query has seen viewers flocking to the comments section to have their say, with one TikTok user writing: “The underside of my air fryer is none of my business.”

A second said: “Literally thought the exact same when I was cleaning my air fryer the other day.”

Another viewer took a pop at CleanTok users by writing: “Lord not again. How y’all come up with more things to clean?”

“Note to self - DO NOT LIFT AIRFRYER TO LOOK UNDERNEATH,” joked a fourth.

Another said: “I choose to ignore this video and continue with my life. Thank you very much.”

While it may seem everyone on your FYP has an air fryer, a new report states the cooking device is going to get even more popular.

Allied Market Research claims that the global air fryer market size will grow to reach $1.9 billion (£1.5 billion) by 2032.

So with more and more people bringing energy-efficient mini ovens into their homes, they need sage cleaning advice, right?

According to Lakeland, it actually only takes 10 minutes to get your air fryer sparkling.

The business states you should get in the habit of giving your air fryer tray a quick once-over after every use.

However, deep cleans don’t need to be as regular - once every two to three weeks should do the trick.

They recommend unplugging the device and waiting 30 minutes before washing every part separately with hot, soapy water.

After you’ve wiped everything, including the pesky build-up around the heating element, you need to dry everything before popping it back together.
