Pilates With Mini Pigs Sounds Like Our Kind Of Excercise

Pilates With Mini Pigs Sounds Like Our Kind Of Excercise

Finally, exercise that we can totally get on board with: one farm is offering fitness fanatics to take a pilates class with mini pigs.

First there was alpaca yoga and now it's piggy pilates at Pennywell Farm in Buckfastleigh, Devon.

It's just like a usual pilates class, although you'll be doing it outside on the farm while miniature pigs wander around making the whole thing much more enjoyable (granted you're a fan of pigs!).

And after the exercise class, guests are able to have a cuddle with the mini animals as well as enjoying a cup of coffee and continental breakfast.

Harry Parkes, who will be leading the class, says: "While there is plenty of fun to be had, Pilates has many benefits including improving posture, movement quality, mobility, flexibility, mental cognition and core strength."

He adds: "The advantages of interaction with animals of any kind are widely known and touching animals releases many hormones such as phenyl ethylamine, the magic hormone which has the same pleasurable effect on the brain as chocolate.

"The pigs will be free to roam around the participants as they take their class and - with pigs being curious by nature - it should prove to be interesting."

Pilates improves posture, movement quality, mobility, flexibility, mental cognition and core strength.

Pennywell's owner Chris Murray says: "Exercise is an important part of life so should never be boring. You can have a real giggle and still have a good workout.

"Everyone should exercise with a smile on their face and with miniature pigs running around, it's impossible not to smile."

Whether you're new to pilates or a hardcore fan, the class will be suitable for all ages and abilities as the classes are designed to be relaxed, non-intimidating and welcoming.

The classes will run monthly, with the first kicking off on Sunday, 12th May. Tickets cost £35 and include 50 minutes of piggy pilates in the farmyard, breakfast, cuddles and full admission into the farm.

Places are limited so act fast if you want to take part in piggy pilates at Pennywell Farm - book and view full dates here.
