Zara McDermott Jokes About 'Real Reason' She Appeared On Love Island

Love Island has grown in popularity so exponentially over the last few years that there isn't a single contestant who doesn't walk into the villa with the hopes of fame and fortune.

This week, we saw Faye Winter question why Lucinda Stafford was staying in the ITV villa for the "opportunity", and stating that contestants should only be in there to find The One.

But now former Islander, Zara McDermott, 24, has thrown her twopence worth in to the debate, joking that she entered the Love Island villa for the 'PLT deal,' too.

We mean, who didn't?

Speaking to her boyfriend, Sam Thompson, about the current series, 2018 contestant Zara agreed that most Islanders weren't just thinking about love.

It came after Sam could be heard discussing Lucinda's decision to stay in the villa without Brad McClelland.

After Brad offered to leave, giving Lucinda the chance to continue her journey, Sam remarked: "She’s not shocked at all! She literally couldn’t be happier.

"The PLT deal is still in effect! He goes, 'I’m going to go' and she goes, 'Are you sure?'…"

He added: "She doesn’t give a s***! [Jake] cares more than she does!," before turning to Zara as Faye kicked off, and questioning: "Why has Faye made it all about her?"

"I wish I knew the answer to that," Zara laughed. "I was there for a PLT deal!"

Sam then retorted: "They’re all there for a PLT deal!"

While Pretty Little Thing might not have come ringing at Zara's door, their rival Missguided did - which is still pretty major.

And she's not doing too badly at the influencer life. In fact, she's got over 1.5 million followers on Instagram, making her a spon-con dream.

Since appearing on the dating show - where she met ex Adam Collard - Zara has also landed other TV opportunities, too.

Most notably, she appeared in Made In Chelsea recently, baring the ups and downs of her relationship with Sam Thompson for the world to see.

She also worked on a candid BBC documentary about revenge porn, which was widely acclaimed when it dropped mid-way through this year.

Whatever Zara's reasoning for going on Love Island, we can only salute her success!
