On Thursday evening, This Morning scooped a National Television Award for Best Daytime Show - but fans were left a little confused.

This Morning viewers will know that while presenting the show, Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield still sit apart, at a safe distance, due to the ongoing pandemic.

But during the NTAs, the pair could be seen sat together, laughing and hugging in close proximity.

Fans were confused, with one writing on Twitter: "So @thismorning won’t let @Schofe and @hollywills sit next to each other during the week yet at the @OfficialNTAs they are sitting together and hugging."

And Phil himself responded with a shrugging shoulders and facepalm emoji.

And another said: "So they can all sit next to each other at NTAs etc but on This Morning and other ITV daytime shows - they maintain pandemic level social distancing... why?"

And a third added: "On #ThisMorning Holly and Phil are now socially distancing by 1 metre… yet at the #NTAs they’re practically sat on each other’s lap - along with 100s of other tv presenters / actors who are also socially distancing on TV programmes."

Another asked: "Did Holly and Phil forget about the 1metre rule. What’s the point in observing it on the programme and kissing the face of each other at the awards. No social distancing whatsoever."

"That’s social distancing gone out the window. They’ll all be back at work tomorrow standing 2m apart," added one.

It was an emotional moment as the This Morning team collected their award, with Phil explaining: "The last 18 months has been a tough one for all of us. What was amazing for us was that every single day, because of the brilliance of ITV, we could stay on air and we could be there.

"We felt like we were sort of everyone's comfort blanket... the most important thing for us, for all of our heads, you were our comfort blanket, we were all in it together."

Tyla has contacted ITV for comment.
