Alison Hammond always loves a laugh on This Morning, but today's episode was a real corker for her. Barry Humphries (more commonly known by his act, Dame Edna) appeared on the ITV morning show and left Alison Hammond cackling when he mistook Dermot O'Leary for Phillip Schofield... and congratulated him on coming out.
Watch the 'mix-up' below:
The Dame Edna Everage creator told Dermot O’Leary: "I've got a very good memory Dermot. A very good memory and incidentally I want to congratulate you by the way, seriously, on your courage".

Alison started laughing while Dermot looked confused and then clocked on to what was happening.
Barry continued: "Last year, when he came out and told us about his sexuality. No, no, because I think a lot of people respected you for that."
Trying to keep it together and referring to regular This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield, Dermot replied: "Thank you. I’ll pass that onto the gentleman who’s here from Monday to Thursday."

"Sorry, have I-", asked Barry looking puzzled.
He ended on: "Your bravery was amazing. And by the way, we’re all in showbusiness."
Phillip Schofield came out as gay last year, writing in a statement: "You never know what's going on in someone's seemingly perfect life, what issues they are struggling with or the state of their wellbeing - and so you won't know what has been consuming me for the last few years. With the strength and support of my wife and daughters I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay."
Viewers were absolutely creasing over the interview with Barry.

One person wrote on Twitter: "The look on Dermot O'Leary's face when Barry Humphries congratulated him for his bravery on 'coming out' was a picture just now on This Morning. Absolutely hilarious - the man is class, don't you know possums!"
Another viewer agreed: "#ThisMorning that Barry Humphries was so funny I’ve rewound the TV to watch again".
"Screaming laughing at Barry Humphries on #thismorning, thanking Dermot for coming out! How Alison didn’t wet herself howling is beyond me", tweeted someone else.
Others made sure though to clarify that they thought Barry was pulling everyone's leg:"Lmao 🤣, people on Twitter actually thinking Barry Humphries confused Dermot with Phillip 🤣 …….. that was the joke 😜".

But some people found it hilarious either way: "Barry Humphries! Unreal! 😂 Don't care if meant or not when said Dermot brave for coming out!"
