The Real Manhunt: The Night Stalker: Viewers In Tears At 'Chilling' ITV Doc

The Real Manhunt: The Night Stalker: Viewers In Tears At 'Chilling' ITV Doc

The ITV documentary follows on from the Martin Clunes drama on the same true crime saga.

Following on from ITV's drama starring Martin Clunes as DCI Colin Sutton last week, in which the true crime story of the Night Stalker was reenacted, the channel released a documentary delving further into the case.

In a gripping doc, fronted by Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid and named The Real Manhunt: The Night Stalker, the true story of rapist Delroy Grant and his 17 year long reign of terror was examined.

Viewers saw Susanna speaking to the real Sutton, as well as investigating officers Det Supt Simon Morgan and DAC Sue Akers - all part of Operation Minstead - to gain an insight into the hunt for the killer.

Delroy Grant is thought to have committed over 100 offences overall, raping elderly people in South East London for almost two decades.

Reacting to the doc, viewers were clearly shaken by the true story of his crimes.

"The Real Manhunt: The Night Stalker. Absolutely chilling," said one after watching Susanna's doc.

"The real Manhunt on ITV is very scary," said another.

While a third poignantly penned: "Crying at The Real Manhunt story on ITV the victims in these crimes were in their own homes, elderly women.

"So who is safe? When will we feel safe? Where will we feel safe? Outside? At home? With friends? Alone? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH".

Grant is a Jamaican convicted rapist known as the Night Stalker, who is famed for having burgled, raped and sexually assaulted a whole string of mostly elderly people between October 1992 and May 2009.

Grant would target lone, elderly women - with the oldest being in her 90s - in their homes, and sexually assault them.

He lived a double life, committing his crimes at night while going to church and taking care of his family by day.

He was eventually caught after police launched the dedicated Operation Minstead team to track him down, which was run out of Lewisham police station.

Operation Minstead was set up by the Met Police in 1998 to investigate the crimes, and is to this day the largest and most complex rape investigation the force has taken on.
