Squid Game Fans Spot Theory Players Are Related

Well…this changes everything.

We’ve been entirely hooked on Squid Game since it dropped on Netflix, with the genre-bending series quite literally ‘haunting our dreams’.

And now, there’s one fan theory we just can’t get out of our minds…

Watch the video below.

For those of you who haven’t binged it, Squid Game follows a series of people who are offered a way out of their crippling debts by taking part in a series of childhood games.

But things aren’t as straightforward as they may seem, with those who fail to play the games properly being savagely murdered by the workers.

Now, one particularly savvy fan believes there’s a familial link between Seong Gi-hun, and Oh Il-nam, the elderly man who’s player No. 001.

In a short TikTok video, user @Jazephua pointed towards a scene where Seong Gi-hun says he wants chocolate milk over ordinary milk, as he would have problems digesting it as a child.

After overhearing the conversation, Oh Il-nam walks over to Seong Gi-hun, and says: “As a kid, I’m willing to bet you got spanked a lot.”

Seong Gi-hun replies: “How did you know?”

“My son did too,” Oh Il-nam says. “He was just like you, friend.”

Are you thinking what we’re thinking?

The old man is at the heart of a new theory (

The theory that Player 001 is really Seong Gi-Hun’s father is made stronger when Oh Il-nam talks to him in a later episode.

When walking through an area that’s made to look like backstreets, Oh Il-nam says: “You know, when I was a kid, I live in a neighbourhood just like this.”

“So did I!” says Seong Gi-Hun. “And you know something? Our alleyway looked very similar.”

Of course, Squid Game fans lapped up the father-son fan theory, with many believing it makes a lot of sense.

“Imagine it turns out the whole game was a way to see his son…” one person theorised.

A second added: “Bro, right off the bat I assumed the old man is behind everything, and this made me positive he’s his son.”

While a third recalled another moment in the series: “Omg! And at the end, when he asked him why he let him win, he replies, ‘Because it was fun playing with you.’”

Could it be?

In other Squid Game theories, one TikTokker believes that people’s roles in the games are entirely determined by the colour of the card they select at the beginning of the games.

You can read more about that here.

Squid Game season one is available to stream on Netflix and we're hoping to hear more about season two soon.
