Normal People Fans Think This Photo Is Proof A Second Season Is Coming

Make. It. Happen.

Remember lockdown 2020? Banana bread was the nation’s favourite snack, we’d swapped our suits and ties for jogging bottoms and jumpers – and we were utterly obsessed with Normal People.

The romantic/horny BBC Three drama, based on Sally Rooney’s book of the same name, was a smash hit in lockdown, making household names of stars Daisy Edgar Jones and Paul Mescal, who played star-crossed lovers Marianne and Connell.

For those of you yet to watch the series (and you should, you’re missing out), Normal People doesn’t quite have the ending everyone hoped for.

After finally getting together, Connell and Marianne are forced apart once more, after Connell is offered a scholarship on a prestigious writing course in New York.

But now, as Daisy and Paul have shared photos on Instagram spending time together in NYC, fans are speculating whether the pair being there at the same time could be the result of an imminent sequel.

Sharing the picture on Twitter, one person wrote: “Normal People pt 2?” and then added a crying emoji.

“The caption under the picture is about being in NYC so I'm taking that as there's a season 2 of Normal People,” said a second.

“Saw a picture of Daisy and Paul together in NYC… is my heart even ready for Normal People season 2?” a third chipped in.

A fourth added: “Daisy posted something with Paul in NY & the Normal People account just posted for the first time in months…. season 2?"

“Daisy’s Insta post…is she dropping Normal People season 2 hints?," wrote somebody else.

Well, this might all be wishful thinking guys, as there are currently no plans for a second season, and a second book hasn't even been penned, yet.

Sally Rooney, who has recently released Beautiful World, Where Are You? has never given any inclination of a follow-up, while co-producer Ed Guiney is keen to let the series lie.

“We've turned our attention – we're adapting Conversations with Friends,” he told Digital Spy.

People are desperate to see more. (

"It's the same basic team. Lenny [Abrahamson] is going to direct it and is across it as an executive producer. And Alice Birch and all of us at Element [Pictures].

"So that's what we'll be turning our attention to next. But maybe down the line we'll come back to Connell and Marianne."

Fingers crossed we meet Marianne and Connell in the future.
