Married At First Sight UK Fans Outraged After Nikita Uses Term ‘Knacker’ In Explosive Row With Husband Ant

Married At First Sight UK Fans Outraged After Nikita Uses Term ‘Knacker’ In Explosive Row With Husband Ant

Nikita used a term that is considered offensive to members of the travelling community.

The drama is piling up on Married At First Sight UK, and we’re only four days in.

It certainly wasn’t love at first sight for Ant Poole and Nikita Jasmine on their wedding day, with Nikita saying her match was “the opposite” of what she’d asked for.

And things have only got worse on their honeymoon, with the pair having a series of explosive rows.

Watch the video below.

After Ant accused Nikita for “only being on the show for followers” and “not being over her ex-boyfriend”, things quickly became tense, with Nikita throwing a plastic cup at Ant.

In a fit of rage, Nikita shouted at producers: “Put me in a different room to him, I’m not sleeping with that knacker on holiday.

“Go get your f***ing brows waxed and get a sunbed, will you? You f***ing little divvy.”

However, some fans were left stunned at Nikita’s use of the word ‘knacker’, a slur that is considered offensive to people in the traveller community.

Taking to Twitter, one affronted person wrote: “The term knacker is a slur against the travelling community. Surprised it wasn’t bleeped!”

A second added: “I’m amazed they allowed a racist term to be aired like that!” while a third said: “Was just told by a friend that the k word is being used repeatedly on @MAFSUK. This is a racist slur and should be recognised as such.”

Tyla has contacted Channel 4 for comment.

Travellers have previously spoken about the offensive term being used as common parlance in society.

Having grown up as a Traveller in Ireland, John Connors, who starred in three-part series The Travellers explained he was called a “knacker” every day.

“I remember the first time I was called it,” he told Journal.ie. “I was four and in junior infants. I went home and I asked my mam what a knacker was and I could see the look on her face.

“It’s always going to be deeply offensive to us but there’s no point in weighing in on it because it will never change. It’s always going to affect me but I think it’s impossible to overcome it.”

For clarity, however, 'knacker' is used in the North East as a term interchangeable with 'idiot' - so Nikita wasn't meant to cause offence to the Traveller community wit her use of language.

Married At First Sight UK continues Mondays to Thursdays at 9pm on Channel 4.
