Married At First Sight UK Fans Spot 'Unfair' Pattern Among Newlyweds

We've all been caught up by the ups-and-downs on Married At First Sight UK but an interesting trend that has slipped viewers notice in the past has now been spotted on the E4 show.

Fans on Reddit have noticed that it is always the husband who sleeps on the sofa rather than their wives when there are problems between the couple.

The Reddit thread asks for opinions on "who should sleep on the couch" as they have seen several "instances of couples where one party is sleeping on the couch, it seems to be accepted that this is automatically the man."

They wrote: "I think that the marital bed is more than a bed, it's a concept, it's symbolic of trust and intimacy. If you don't want to share it then you don't sleep in it, you take the couch."

"I don't think the man should be sent to the couch just because the woman doesn't want to share a bed at that moment," they continued.

They argue that the choice "goes against equal partnership."

Examples from the show included Marilyse telling Franky to take the couch on their wedding night and after a heated row between them earlier this week, as well as Megan telling Bob to sleep on the couch after her infidelity with fellow MAFS star Jordan.

One fan said, "I don't know why Bob is getting sent to the couch like he's done something wrong."

Another said, "Whoever doesn't want to share the bed should be on the sofa."

Others argued that at the very least, the couples sleeping apart should be taking turns sleeping on the bed and the sofa to make it "fair" for the other person.

Though this has been spotted as a common pattern on Married At First Sight, it is not the only reality TV dating show that usually sees the male partner sleeping outside 'in the dog house' and the female partner in their shared bed even when they've done nothing wrong.

Fans of Love Island will know that it happens often within couples during arguments or splits, as the woman will stay in the main room with the other contestants and their male partner will sleep outside "on the daybed" instead.

Married At First Sight continues Monday to Thursdays at 9pm on E4.
