Maid Viewers Are Just Realising Alex And Paula Are Related IRL

Maid Viewers Are Just Realising Alex And Paula Are Related IRL

The family resemblance is real, guys.

For those of us who have already finished Squid Game (we watched it before it was cool, guys) we’re tuning into Maid, another harrowing drama available to stream on Netflix.

The series follows Alex (spectacularly played by Margaret Qualley) as she decides to escape from her abusive relationship with her alcoholic boyfriend, Sean. Taking their toddler with her, Alex is forced to try and fend for herself and her daughter – making ends meet as a cleaner and fighting homeless and pointless bureaucracy.

You can watch a trailer below.

But her relationship with Sean is not the only abusive relationship Alex finds herself in, as she struggles to connect properly with her mother, Paula (Andie MacDowell) – who is bruised from her own previous struggles.

While their scenes together are emotional and often difficult to watch, Maid viewers have been blown away by another revelation – that Andie McDowell, who plays Paula, is mum to Margaret Qualley in real life.

Naturally, fans took to Twitter to share just how mindblown they are by the revelation.

“Oooomg ooomg the daughter and mom on Netflix’s new series Maid are MOM AND DAUGHTER IN REAL LIFE?” one person wrote, astounded.

“The mom and daughter on Maid being mom and daughter in real life makes so much sense…it just works,” a second said, admiring their natural chemistry.

A third said: “The mom that played Alex mom on maid is her mom in real life. That’s cool asf.”

While a fourth chipped in: “The first episode is a gritty and thought-provoking look at poverty. Incredible acting by Margaret Qualley and her real-life mom Andie MacDowell.”

Ahead of Maid’s release on Netflix, MacDowell spoke out about how “intimidating” she found the role – with daughter Margaret having suggested her for taking the part.

“It wasn’t easy because she was so mean and cruel and horrible to her daughter,” MacDowell said of her character, Paula, on the Graham Norton Show.

“It was interesting that my daughter suggested me for the role and at first, I thought, ‘My God, does she see me like that? Of course, she doesn’t but it was a little intimidating!

“It was so much fun but so challenging for me because I have never played a character like that before. It was great to do something different and to show people what I am capable of.”
