Love Island's Sharon Reveals She Opened Up About Sexuality In Cut Scenes

Love Island's Sharon Reveals She Opened Up About Sexuality In Cut Scenes

The reality star said scenes in which she opened up about her sexuality were cut from the ITV show.

Love Island bosses cut scenes of former islander, Sharon Gaffka, talking about her sexuality, she's claimed.

The reality star has commented that a big part of her journey on the ITV dating show wasn't shown - namely the moment she opened up about her sexuality during a chat with fellow islander Faye Winter.

Fans will remember seeing 25-year-old Civil Servant Sharon talking about the fact she was "exploring" bisexuality, and admitting to having had threesomes.

But she says a more serious conversation about her sexuality wasn't shown.

She told Metro: “I had a conversation with Faye about it and she asked: ‘Are you bisexual?’

“And I said: ‘It’s something I’ve explored but I’ve never been in a relationship with a woman.'”

Not only was Sharon's coming out moment cut from Love Island, but so were conversations she had about dating as a mixed race woman.

She hinted that producers seemed to favour chats about more trivial issues.

"A lot of the conversations I had were about modern dating on the show were never aired, but I was very open about sexuality and being a mixed-race woman in modern dating," she said.

The comments come amid a wider conversation about Love Island being more LGBTQ+ inclusive.

Back in June, ITV commissioner Amanda Stavri controversially told Radio Times that including non straight contestants would be too much of a “logistical difficulty”.

“There’s a sort of logistical difficulty, because although Islanders don’t have to be 100 per cent straight, the format must sort of give [the] Islanders an equal choice when coupling up," she said.

Even if there was a queer version of the show, Sharon says she would think twice about taking part.

“I think putting myself through something like that again is quite intense, but I’m always open to seeing what opportunities happen," she said.

Sharon was booted off the series mid-way through, after things cooled off with fellow islander, Aaron Francis. Before being kicked off in a recoupling, she had been in a friendship couple with Hugo Hammond. But when new girl, Georgia Townend, picked Hugo instead, Sharon was sent home.
