Love Island: Jake Cornish's Dad Responds To 'Game Plan' Accusations

We’re days away from the final, and naturally things are getting intense in the Love Island villa.

Despite having been coupled up since day one, the other Islanders are not convinced that Jake Cornish’s feelings for Liberty Poole are genuine.

Viewers are also doubtful, as Jake fails to ever reassure Liberty about her insecurities and only ever tells her that he made her ‘his girlfriend’.

In Sunday night’s episode, the Islanders confronted Jake about whether he was being genuine, resulting in the intense scenes that you can watch below.

However, as the preview for Tuesday night’s episode shows Jake in the firing line again, his dad has now rushed to his defence, pleading for viewers to “be kind.”

Writing on his Facebook page, Mark Cornish said: “It’s Jake’s last week in the villa and as his parents we have really enjoyed watching his relationship with Liberty develop.

“It’s been hard at times, to see his loyalty and honesty called into question when we know him to be completely genuine.

“Please continue to support Jake and his feelings for Liberty which are from the heart. And as always, be kind.”

Mark later clarified his comments to the BristolLive newspaper.

“What you see on telly is Jake,” he explained. “There is no motive. He is genuine but he speaks before he thinks, so when you see him on the telly saying things, it's because it's coming from his heart and he's just a nice lad.”

Mark added it was especially difficult seeing the amount of hate, trolling and abuse Jake was on the receiving end of online.

“It's quite hard to stomach the comments that people write, it's not nice when he hasn't done anything wrong and it's just the way he has been made to look,” he said.

“It's quite an emotional thing to see your son struggling. The worst thing about it for us is seeing the vile comments - mainly from keyboard warriors that don't understand Jake.

“They just see him on the telly and think that he's in it for the money or he's a bit of a, you know, bit of a snake and you know, I'm not being horrible to Jake but he's not intelligent enough to have a game plan!"

And with both Chloe Burrows and Faye Winter getting deeply involved in the drama, Mark suspects that the pair, who are also contenders to win, have ulterior motives.

“I don't know whether some of it is being staged or not because when Liberty came back onto the sofa, not one of the girls reassured her that he may have said what he said because he actually loves her. They may have been told to react like that,” he said.

"Hopefully we have turned a corner after the weekend and the public will start thinking that the others are in it to win it too.

"Jake and Liberty have been strong from Day One and I think the others felt it was a good idea to get rid of them, so they had a better chance at winning the show."
