Love Island's Luke Trotman Reveals How Producers 'Stop Forbidden Conversations' In The Villa

Love Island's Luke Trotman Reveals How Producers 'Stop Forbidden Conversations' In The Villa

Talking about the outside world is entirely off limits on Love Island - and they go to extreme limits to prevent it.

Walking into the Love Island villa, you'd be forgiven for thinking you've signed up for an all-inclusive holiday, with eight weeks of casual flirting stretched out ahead of you.

But in exchange for the sun, raunchy challenges and romantic dates, there are actually some pretty strict rules the islanders have to keep while on the show, too.

Rule number one? Talking about the outside world is frowned upon, and none of the new bombshells are allowed to spill anything about how things might look from a viewer's perspective.

In fact, producers actively discourage this from being spoken about according to Love Island 2020 runners-up, Luke Trotman and Siânnise Fudge.

Speaking exclusively to Tyla to mark Boots' collaboration with Love Island this year, Luke revealed: "They had a tannoy everywhere, so they can shout out if you talk about anything to do with the outside world.

"Literally, I remember it always used to be like ‘stop talking about the outside world,'" he recalled. "Stop talking about Instagram."

Siânnise confirmed: "Yeah, it could be about anything, straight away they’d be on you."

It didn't always deter the islanders, though...

Discussing what it was like when he came in as a bombshell, Luke added: "Everyone used to be on all the bombshells like ‘what's happening on the outside?'"

He explained that you'd get reprimanded "straight away" if you did start to pry to any of the newbies.

"They brief you before you go in and warn you [that] you’re not to tell anyone wants going on outside," Siânnise added. "So, if they did catch you they would tell you off."

"I used to get in trouble the worst, I think," Luke laughed.

He wasn't the only one, either. Luke remembers fellow bombshell Jamie Clayton being called into the Beach Hut and "properly told off" for sharing outside information.

Luke and Siânnise added that couples also weren't allowed to talk about anything that might be of interest when the cameras weren't rolling.

Reflecting on meal times, where contestants weren't filmed, Luke said of producers: "They'd regulate it. They’d be in and out, checking you’re not flirting with each other."

And that's not all - on days off filming, the boys and the girls would even be sent to separate villas to hang out, so that no vital conversations were missed.

"We got a day off like every 12 days, so the cameras will still be rolling and the girls and boys spit up, so the boys would go to another villa," he remembered.

You can't say ITV don't do their utmost to ensure we get quality content!

Former islanders have also shared other behind-the-scenes secrets over the years, including the fact that they never know the time and wear sunglasses in bed because it's so bright in the mornings.
