Return To Hogwarts: Harry Potter Fans Fear For Ron And Hermione's Marriage After New Reunion Photo

We’ve had a new sneak peek at the upcoming Harry Potter reunion special, and it's all Potterheads can talk about.

The new Return To Hogwarts image sees Daniel Radcliffe reuniting with Emma Watson and Rupert Grint as well as a number of other Hogwarts alumni to celebrate 20 years since the first Harry Potter film was released in cinema.

And naturally, Potterheads have turned detective to try and tease clues after the picture hit social media: with many predicting trouble between Hermione and Ron.

While the Return to Hogwarts special is a reunion, and not a reboot (think the Friends reunion show), many believe the actors may divulge what they think the future looks like for their characters – and they've got divorce on the brain.

As Emma and Rupert are stood back to back on the poster, some fans believe this is symbolic of a ‘frosty atmosphere’ between the two characters – who many believe would have split despite being hopelessly in love throughout the series.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: “Hermione and Ron divorce,” followed by a sad face.

Another theorised: “Rupert is gonna try to take my joy away by saying ‘Romione’ got a divorce and Ron is a deadbeat living in Molly and Arthur’s basement while Hermione chose to be a strong independent woman.”

A third said: “This is where Hermione and Ron got divorced because we know that didn’t work out.”

“I want the Harry Potter Reunion to be a 2.5 HR film focusing on the Divorce between Adult Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger,” a fourth joked.

Even JK Rowling admits she may have made a mistake pairing Ron and Hermione together.

Speaking to Wonderland magazine in 2014, she said she put Hermione and Ron together as “wish fulfilment” rather than the pair really being well-suited to one another.

“That’s how it was conceived, really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron,” she said.

“I know, I’m sorry. I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not.”

Well, we think the pair would still be happily married, thank you very much.

Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts will be available to watch on New Year's Day on HBO Max.
