Celebrity Masterchef: Channel 5 Forced To Apologise After Leaking Winner

Celebrity Masterchef: Channel 5 Forced To Apologise After Leaking Winner

Whoops.

Celebrity Masterchef fans were left furious when the results of their first Christmas special were unveiled before the show had aired.

The popular BBC One cooking contest is showing two new celebrity specials for the festive season, with the first ep showing Oti Mabuse, Judi Love, Joey Essex, Neil Ruddock and Su Pollard taking on the Masterchef kitchen to cook a Christmas feast.

However, before the results were revealed on BBC One at 9pm, a news bulletin on Channel 5 at 8pm told viewers that it was Judi Love that took the top title.

Yep, Channel 5 did a proper Prue Leith and revealed the winner before the show had even gotten underway.

While we can see the funny side of the mistake, fans of Celebrity Masterchef were thoroughly unimpressed, and took to Twitter to vent their frustration.

“How did @5_News on @channel5_tv just announce the winner of Celebrity @MasterChefUK?” fumed one viewer. “I’m literally just recording the first of two programmes right now!!!! Thanks a bunch!!!”

A second moaned: “Well done @5_News for giving a spoiler, without warning, on the 8pm news today of the winner of Celebrity @MasterChefUK showing later in [the] evening.”

And a third complained: “Why the hell would you announce the winner of Christmas MasterChef before it’s been aired!”

One viewer, however, was tickled by the Christmas cock-up.

Another fan left a sarcastic comment (

“First time I watch channel 5 ever and the news bulletin spoils celeb master chef before it’s even aired on BBC One,” they joked.

Channel 5 were quick to offer an apology about the mistake, writing a message on the Channel 5 News Twitter account.

“We would like to say sorry for mistakenly announcing the winner of BBC1's Celebrity Masterchef before it was revealed on the programme tonight,” they said. “Apologies to all fans of the show.”

Thankfully, there is another Celebrity Masterchef Christmas special airing later on this festive season.

Gemma Collins, Joe Swash, Les Dennis, Mica Paris and Reverend Richard Coles will battle it out to have their meal crowned the best celebrity Christmas dinner.

Tyla has contacted Channel 5 for comment.

The second Celebrity MasterChef Christmas special airs on Thursday December 23 at 9pm on BBC One.
