Boxing Day will hit cinemas in time for the festive season in December.

Leigh-Anne co-stars in the film as successful singer Georgia, whose ex-boyfriend Melvin (I May Destroy You‘s Aml Ameen) travels home to London from the US for Christmas with his fiancée, Lisa (How to Get Away With Murder's Aja Naomi King).

When Georgia and Melvin’s paths cross once again, their feelings for each other from the past appear to surface once again.

Boxing Day is not only a huge feat for new mum-of-two Leigh-Anne, it also happens to be the UK’s first ever Christmas-set romantic comedy with an all-black cast.

Fans may also notice a slight similarity with another rom-com released this year, Netflix's Resort to Love.

AM to PM singer Christina Milian stars as singer Erica happens to run into her ex-fiance Jason (Jay Pharaoh) during his destination wedding to Beverly (Christiani Pitts).

It wouldn’t be a rom-com without a love triangle, and Erica finds herself entangled with Jason’s brother Caleb (Sinqua Walls) and old feelings between Erica and Jason soon resurface.

Aml wrote and directed the rom-com, who compared Leigh-Anne's character in Boxing Day to “my Julia Roberts from My Best Friend’s Wedding or Notting Hill” in an interview with Digital Spy.

Aml, who is a huge fan of Love, Actually, Notting Hill, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Crazy Rich Asians and My Big Fat Greek Wedding wanted to give the genre his “personal adage.”

In his interview with Digital Spy, Aml explained how Leigh-Anne landed the role, revealing he did not know who Little Mix were at the time. "I was looking for someone who could sing too. My writing partner, Bruce Purnell, said that I had to check out this girl and showed me Leigh-Anne.

"One of the casting directors got in touch with her, and she filmed a tape. When I watched it, I saw something incredible in there."

It seems like rom-com fans a truly the winners of 2021!

Boxing Day arrives in cinemas 3rd December.
