Angela Black: Viewers Hooked To 'Gripping' New ITV Drama

The drama started on Sunday evening on ITV.

Trigger warning: This article discusses domestic abuse and contains content that some readers may find distressing

New drama Angela Black kicked off on ITV on Sunday evening, and viewers were left hooked to the 'gripping' new series.

The show follows Angela (played by Joanne Froggatt) who is a victim of domestic violence by her husband Olivier (Michael Husiman).

You can watch the trailer below:

Angela lives a seemingly 'perfect' life, with two sons, a beautiful home and a volunteering position at a rescue centre. But behind closed doors, Olivier is controlling and manipulative.

In the first episode, we see Angela brutally attacked by Olivier after having their friends over for dinner. Olivier accuses Angela of 'embarrassing him' and she is left with a black eye and a bruised lip.

But things take an even more sinister turn when Angela meets Ed (Samuel Adewunmi) who tells her he has been hired by Olivier to follow Angela, and find out anything that Olivier could use against her in a custody battle for their children.

Angela is shocked, having not realised Olivier wanted a divorce. She's also not entirely sure she believes Ed, but when he shows up again at her home, to say Olivier has hired him to kill her, she doesn't know who to turn to.
